I worked in fashion as a stylist and personal shopper for 11 years before transitioning into set design, events, and interiors styling 25 years ago. You could say that fashion was my ‘first love’ and there are so many similarities between them. The similarities in styling clothes to styling events and interiors that I love is finding new ways to connect things to curate something special; mixing furniture, textures, and ‘found’ pieces that add personality. I love rummaging through vintage markets and finding unique treasures like table décor, jewelry, and salvage to mix in with other pieces in my wardrobe and home, and they often show up in my set design as props as well. When I style client’s homes and events I always find out what inspires them and brings them joy before we decide on a design. Your home is a reflection of you, and what makes you feel at your best and relaxed in your own space.
Even before I was a personal shopper, I used to sketch outfits and jewelry. During the covid shutdowns I found myself sketching again and it translated into a small-batch jewelry collection called Fullfeatherramble. ‘Full feather’ is a phrase that was used in the early 1800s to mean ‘going out in one’s best dressed’ and ‘ramble’ is a reference to ‘wandering’ or travelling. I have always liked the idea of a bird going out in its ‘best’ feathers and taking trips – hence the name!
I founded my design company – Reverie Event Design 14 years ago. ‘Reverie’ is listed in the dictionary as ‘an instrumental piece suggesting a dreamy or musing state.’ I love dreaming up ideas for clients that are unique and reflect the mood they are looking to create, whether it’s for their homes or for their events.
